Kerr grew up in the dramatic landscape of North Yorkshire between the moors and the North Sea, and from an early age found herself mesmerised by the interaction of light with natural scenery. Her inspiration is drawn from a fascination with the movement of light and dark and how it shapes our emotional response to an environment.

Kerr works between her studios in the northeast of England and the southern Spanish mountains - two contrasting landscapes that reflect the polarity of her work, at once harmonious and euphoric; nostalgic and sombre.

I love to paint and I have a strong need to create. My work explores memory, emotion and the way a particular place, environment or ever-changing light can affect the way I feel.

"My painting process is emotive and highly energised. Often, I begin a piece inspired purely by emotion and then comes a memory of place and's then that a landscape begins to form. Sometimes I begin with a landscape and then the piece becomes more abstracted as memory and emotions take over...I move fast and for long periods until I feel the painting has reached a certain point...then I catch my breath, stand back, look, absorb, then off I go again until the piece tells me it’s finished." - Kerr Ashmore

Kerr's work has been featured in a wide range of exhibitions in the UK, Europe and further afield and is held in several private collections.
